OSI Group LLC is a privately held meat and food processing company headquartered in Aurora, Illinois, in the United States. It offers its services to food service industries as well as to retailers. OSI Group is an international company and it has about 70 facilities spread in 17 countries all over the world.

OSI Group LLC history Background.

The company was founded by a German Immigrant Otto Kolschowsky, in 1909 as a family meat market. The company was named Otto & Sons in 1928. Due to their outstanding services to their customers, the meat company gained popularity and in 1955 it became the beef supplier of McDonald’s, which had just opened by then.

In1973, the company opened its first large processing plant in West Chicago. Otto & Sons changed its name to OSI Industries in 1975 but still remained to be the main supplier to the McDonald’s which was experiencing geographical expansion at the time. OSI Industries also opened facilities outside the United States and by 1990 it had expanded to South America, Europe, and Asia and later on to China, South Africa, Japan, Australia, and the Philippines.

OSI Industries Leadership.

After the retirement of Otto Kolschowsky from the company’s operations, his two sons and Sheldon Lavin took over the company. Sheldon became the company’s overall controller in the early 1980’s.

Through him, the company has experienced exponential growth, transforming it into a global food supplier, providing employment to more than 20,000 people. Sheldon Lavin is the Chief Executive Officer as well as the Chairman of OSI Group.

Sheldon has been working in close collaboration with other companies executives. These include David G. McDonald, the COO and President of OSI Group, Bill Weimer the CFO and Executive Vice President, Brent Afman, Stefan Chenn, and the recently added executive, Nicole Johnson Hoffman, serving as the Chief Sustainable Officer and Senior VP, among others.

OSO Group’s Growth.

OSI Food Solutions UK, was the recipient of Globe of Honour Award from the British Safety Council, in 2016. This after demonstrating supremacy in environmental management.

Due to its expanding clientele, OSI Group made acquisition of Tyson Food, a food processing facility in Chicago, as well as a private Dutch company, Baho Food, a manufacturer of meat products. The company has also acquired Flagship Europe, a UK-based food supplier, which will enhance OSI’s presence in Europe. All these acquisitions happen in 2016.

OSI Group’s consistency in providing high-quality services to its clients has made the company to be named among the top 100 food and beverage companies both in 2016 and 2017. This may have also facilitated to the fast-growing demand of their products more so in Spain and Portugal. In 2017, OSI Food Solutions Spain doubles its production of chicken products, by expanding the Toledo facility.
